Privacy Policy

Quem Companion is a language learning and world companion app for the Quemish language and the world of Trexlin. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who We Are
Quem Companion is provided by M. Tutt Lambert for Trexlin. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" refer to the developer and operator of Quem Companion.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
If you create an account or sign in, we collect information needed to operate your account, such as your email address, authentication identifier, and display name if provided. Authentication is handled through Firebase Authentication. We do not receive or store your plain-text password.
Learning and App Progress
We may store app progress and personalization data, including lesson progress, practice history, XP, streaks, quiz results, spaced-repetition status, quest progress, challenge completion, awards or totems, app settings, and your selected Quem identity or avatar-related choices.
Gahnesh, AI, Name, and Speech Features
If you use AI-powered features, such as Gahnesh chat, name enrichment, or generated pronunciation audio, the text you submit and related app context may be sent to our backend and to AI or speech service providers so the feature can respond. Do not submit sensitive personal information in chat or name prompts.
Subscription Information
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through in-app purchase. We may receive and store information needed to determine whether your subscription entitlement is active. We do not collect or store your credit card number, bank account, or Apple payment credentials.
Device and Technical Information
We and our service providers may process basic technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, IP address, request metadata, logs, and diagnostic information needed for security, troubleshooting, and service operation.
3. Information Stored On Your Device
Some information may be stored locally on your device, including preferences, recent state, cached learning progress, cached dictionary or lexicon data, daily chat counts, and temporary or cached audio files. If you use the app as a guest, progress may remain local and may not be recoverable if the app is deleted.
4. How We Use Information
To create, authenticate, and maintain user accounts.
To save and sync learning progress across sessions and devices.
To provide personalized language lessons, practice, quests, challenges, rewards, and avatar or identity features.
To provide AI-powered chat, name, and speech features.
To enforce daily usage limits and subscription access rules.
To process subscription entitlement status through Apple in-app purchase.
To maintain security, prevent abuse, fix bugs, and improve app reliability.
To respond to support, privacy, or account requests.
5. Third-Party Services
We use service providers to operate Quem Companion. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to us.
Firebase / Google Cloud: authentication, database, cloud functions, backend services, and app infrastructure.
Apple: App Store distribution, in-app purchases, subscriptions, free trials, refunds, and subscription management.
AI and speech providers: AI tutor responses, name features, and pronunciation or speech generation. Current app features may use Google AI services and Amazon Polly speech services through our backend. We may change or add providers as the app evolves.
6. Analytics, Ads, and Tracking
We do not sell personal information. We do not use third-party advertising networks. We do not use your data for third-party marketing. The current app configuration does not enable Firebase Analytics. If analytics or crash diagnostics are added later, this policy will be updated before those features are used in production.
7. Sharing Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers needed to operate the app, when you direct us to do so, when required by law, or when necessary to protect the app, users, or our rights.
8. Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the app, maintain your account and progress, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and operate subscriptions. Local data may remain on your device until you delete the app or clear the relevant app data.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You may use limited guest features without creating an account.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with your account.
You may cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account subscription settings.
You may contact us at privacy@trexlin.net for privacy requests.
We may need to verify your request before acting on it. Some information may be retained where required for legal, security, anti-abuse, or accounting reasons.
10. Children's Privacy
Quem Companion is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encrypted transmission where supported by our providers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
12. International Processing
Information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will update the effective date and provide notice as appropriate.
